I shall not see death.
He promised me it would be so –
I do not fear the light.
This hope assuages time –
My widowhood is served
without lament
for my old life
which was a different life.
I would not go back
nor seek to get back
what has been lost.
Nothing is lost but is made perfect in
the music of its moment - and
for meaning. This I now
bear witness to
My name is cloistered in the rhyme
of songs that I shall sing
as angels do.
The first poem (sooner) originally stood alone, but it proved not to be the whole story. The parallels and shifts needed to be explicit, so for the second poem (later) I found myself writing within the template of the first.
The widowhood is not intended literally.
