Near sundown, we were by the lake
still licking fish from our fingers
and somebody said
That one about the sower
what’s that about?
He answered: Yes
if you’re thinking Greekwise
you can pick it apart
like a roasted fish. There’s head and tail,
scales and skin, guts, flesh and bones.
The flesh you can eat
the skin too if it’s crispy and nice
and the rest goes back on the fire. Then what?
Or you can listen
and listen
and learn to hear
I can still taste that fish on my fingers
